Arlington, VA – (December 7, 2020) – National Cooperative Bank (NCB), a leading financial institution which provides banking products and services to the nation's cooperatives, their members, and other socially responsible organizations, is pleased to announce that it has funded $50,000 to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) to provide scholarships to students attending public Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs).

NCB will be contributing $50,000 to establish the scholarship for qualified applicants and will provide students with awards of $2,500 each for the academic year 2021-2022.

“National Cooperative Bank has established this scholarship to demonstrate NCB’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion to support the pursuit of education for all people,” states John Holdsclaw, NCB Executive Vice President, Strategic Initiatives. “These scholarships will honor Congressman John Lewis, a lifelong advocate of cooperatives and social justice, who was a strong supporter of National Cooperative Bank and one of its first employees.”

Dr. Harry L. Williams, President & CEO of TMCF praised NCB for its generous support of HBCU students.

“These scholarships will greatly benefit the students who attend our member-schools, particularly at a time when so many of our students are facing financial stress,” said Williams. “We are proud of our partnership with NCB and remain grateful for their support in helping our students earn a college degree.”
