Arlington, VA (December 19, 2017) — National Cooperative Bank (NCB), a leading financial services company dedicated to serving cooperatives and socially responsible organizations nationwide, held several organization-wide volunteering opportunities this holiday season. Employees volunteered with nine local non-profit organizations in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area.
“The Bank’s commitment to volunteering is a critical component of our corporate culture,” said Charles E. Snyder, President and CEO of NCB. “This year, we held several volunteer opportunities throughout November and December to encourage our employees to give back during the holiday season. The difference we make working with these organizations empowers both their recipients and our employees, in many ways.”
NCB employees volunteered with the following organizations:
Arlington Food Assistance Center, a community-based non-profit that provides supplemental groceries to Arlington, VA neighbors in need. Volunteers packed bags for the Backpack Buddies program, which provides weekend and holiday meal packs for food-insecure children in the Arlington County schools.
Bread for The City, a non-profit that provides vulnerable residents in the D.C. area with comprehensive services, including food, clothing, medical care and legal and social services. NCB volunteers packed bags of food for the Holiday Helpings program, which provides bags of food to families so they may enjoy a home-made holiday meal together.
Comfort Cases, a local non-profit that provides a backpack of essentials to children entering the foster-care system. NCB volunteers packed and inspected the backpacks full of essentials that will be provided to these children.
Community of Hope, an apartment-style transitional housing program that provides supportive services for ten families in Washington, D.C. NCB employees hosted a birthday party for children living in the apartment complex with November birthdays.
Food and Friends, a local non-profit that prepares packages and delivers meals and groceries to more than 14,000 people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses. NCB employees packed bags of groceries and delivered packed bags to residents in the D.C area.
Women Giving Back, a local non-profit founded to help women and children in crisis by providing clothing at no cost. NCB volunteers assisted in sorting the donated clothes and organizing the store.
As part of NCB’s Annual Employee Meeting, employees dedicated their time packing 150 stockings, decorating bears, writing holiday cards, and building bikes that would be donated to children throughout the D.C area this holiday season to the following local nonprofits:
Happy, Joyous and Freewheeling, a D.C non-profit that works with middle-school and high-school students to teach safe riding and bicycle maintenance skills in schools and the community. NCB employees assembled eight bikes that will be given to children that participate in the bike workshops.
The Homeless Children’s Playtime Project, a D.C non-profit that provides fun activities, healthy snacks and toys to children at emergency shelter and transitional housing sites throughout the D.C area. NCB employees decorated and packed holiday 150 stockings full of toys for the children to receive.
Howard University Hospital, Department of Pediatrics and Child Health. NCB employees decorated 20 teddy bears and made holiday cards that would be distributed to children staying in the hospital over the holiday season.
As a Bank chartered to support cooperative organizations nationwide, NCB’s commitment to community is extensive. NCB has organized volunteer opportunities with many of these non-profits for several years and continues to grow its list of non-profit partners.
