National Cooperative Bank Builds Community Employees Participate in Annual Volunteer Day Serving Organizations in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area

Arlington, VA (October 21, 2016) — National Cooperative Bank (NCB), a leading financial services company dedicated to serving cooperatives nationwide recently held an organization-wide volunteer day where employees volunteered at six local organizations throughout the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area.

“The Bank’s annual Volunteer Day tradition is a critical component of our corporate culture,” said Charles E. Snyder, President and CEO of NCB. “This year we organized our volunteer day during National Co-op Month to live the theme of “Cooperatives Build A Better World. The difference we make working with these organizations empowers both their recipients and our employees, in many ways.”

NCB teams volunteered at the following organizations:

Arlington Food Assistance Center, a community-based non-profit that provides supplemental groceries to Arlington, VA neighbors in need.

Bread for The City, a non-profit that provides vulnerable residents in the DC area with comprehensive services, including food, clothing, medical care and legal and social services, in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.

Comfort Cases, a local non-profit that provides a “backpack” of essentials to the brave children entering the foster-care system.

Food and Friends, a local non-profit that prepares, packages and delivers meals and groceries to more than 14,000 people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses.

Food for Others, a local non-profit that distributes free food for Northern Virginia neighbors in need.

Women Giving Back, a local non-profit founded to help women and children in crisis by providing clothing at no cost. WGB has distributed over 300,000 items of clothing to 23,000 women and 15,300 children from over 100 shelters in Northern Virginia.

As a Bank chartered to support cooperatives organizations nationwide, NCB’s commitment to service is extensive. On a corporate level, its mission banking efforts of supporting underserved communities and cooperative expansion initiatives totaled approximately $300 million in 2015.
