Credit Underwriter


The Credit Underwriter will review mortgage applications to assess the level of risk for that loan and render a decision on the file based on investor guidelines, NCB Loan Policy, and Compliance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review incoming loan files; assess risk; and render a decision based on internal management policies, Investor (Fannie Mae) guidelines and Federal Regulations.
    During the review process or each file, update changes to mortgage software system and process file through automated underwriter software provided by investor FNMA (Desktop Underwriter); review updated findings; prepare commitment letter.    
  • Review incoming conditions needed to clear conditional approvals. 
  • Customer Service – answer phone calls and respond to emails from both external and internal customers; review possible loan scenarios with loan officers and brokers; pipeline management. 
  • Review policy and research investor guidelines; discussion and review with other Underwriters.  

Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree preferred
  • Two to three years of mortgage banking experience preferred.
  • Underwriting experience preferred.
  • Training in cooperative housing/finance desired.
  • Proficient in Encompass systems preferred. 
  •   Knowledge of FNMA guidelines. 
  •   General computer skills, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  •   Detail oriented and ability to multi task.
  •   Ability to prioritize task and work under time deadlines.
